NingboWenzhouMen'S WearIndustry Interpretation

Ningbo and Wenzhou are two representative cities in China's men's wear industry. These two cities, do clothing It is famous for men's wear. After more than 20 years of development, local men's wear has become a dominant industry, and each has a large men's wear listed company leading the industry.

Today, the men's wear industry in Ningbo and Wenzhou are following their own path: for example, Ningbo has been advocating creativity in recent years, injecting fresh blood into traditional industries; Wenzhou, on the other hand, proposes to take the road of high-end manufacturing to give full play to its advantages in men's wear industry. In any case, the two cities are trying to find their own development modes in the overall transformation and upgrading of the industry.

With the help of the long history of the original Hongbang tailors, Ningbo men's wear has gradually started to develop on this solid foundation, and men's wear has become a local advantageous industry; Wenzhou started and developed by taking advantage of the spring breeze of reform and opening up and the market environment and laws at that time.

For Ningbo, the "Red Sect Tailors" may be the most historic and profound memory that people associate this city with clothing. According to the records, the tailors of the Red Sect began in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China. At that time, Ningbo was one of the earliest foreign trade ports in China. Many tailors here made clothes for "Red Hair" (a name for foreigners at that time), hence the name "Red Sect Tailors". From this period on, Chinese clothing gradually transited from robes to Western style clothing. These tailors began to devote themselves to the development of Western style clothing, which not only laid a good foundation for the development of Ningbo's local clothing industry, but also made outstanding contributions to promoting the development of modern Chinese clothing. From this perspective, Ningbo's garment industry has a long history and plays an important role in the history of domestic garment industry.

Even now, clothing is still a city card of Ningbo. As one of the largest garment industry clusters in China, Ningbo ranks first among similar cities in China in terms of comprehensive strength, especially men's wear, and has the largest brand enterprise of suits and shirts in China. The production of suits and suits accounts for more than 40% of Zhejiang Province, and the comprehensive share of shirts exceeds one fourth of the country.

In the late 1970s, taking advantage of the spring breeze of reform and opening up, a number of garment enterprises in Ningbo began to start. Some analysts believe that the Ningbo clothing industry during this period was basically in the spontaneous stage, characterized by traditional clothing such as suits, shirts and trousers.

At the end of 1979, a "Youth Garment Factory" was established in Shiqi Town, Yinzhou District, Ningbo (then called Yinxian County), which is the predecessor of Youngor, now the industry leader. It is said that at that time, the Youth Garment Factory started with 20000 yuan of relocation fees for educated youth. Rulers, scissors and stools were brought by employees, mainly processing vests, shorts and sleeves for other factories.

After entering the late 1980s, Ningbo clothing entered the stage of brand creation. A number of brands such as Shanshan, Luomeng, Peiluocheng and Lodz were founded. Ningbo clothing industry, including men's clothing, entered a stage of rapid development.

Take a look at Wenzhou. Compared with Ningbo men's clothing, Wenzhou men's clothing has no such long history. Wenzhou's economic start and industrial development are closely linked with China's reform and opening up. Before the reform and opening up, Wenzhou was a poor place. It had neither natural resources nor industrial foundation, nor convenient transportation, so it did not have any conditions for rapid economic development. After the reform and opening up, Wenzhou firmly grasped the opportunity in the process of China's transition from a planned economy to a market economy with Chinese characteristics, and the manufacturing industry, including the clothing industry, began to develop.

In the 1980s, Wenzhou people with keen instincts and business acumen seized the opportunity to open a large number of family style clothing production workshops, which is a "front store and back factory" model, mainly for processing with supplied materials. Wenzhou formed a primary clothing industry pattern. This family workshop production and processing mode was ubiquitous at that time, which became a common memory of generations of Wenzhou garment people.

This is consistent with the economic development mode later known as "Wenzhou Mode". It is understood that the Wenzhou model refers to the development of non-agricultural industries in the form of family industry and specialized markets, thus forming a development pattern of small commodities and large markets. It can be said that the market economy with Chinese characteristics provided a strong impetus for the development of Wenzhou clothing industry at the beginning.

Zheng Chen'ai, president of Wenzhou Garment Chamber of Commerce, once said in an interview with our reporter that Wenzhou is open to the development of private enterprises as long as it is within the scope permitted by law. From this point of view, it is Wenzhou's open attitude towards private enterprises that has brought about the prosperity of local private economy and enabled Wenzhou's clothing industry to develop rapidly under the influence of market laws.

Wenzhou Dinaire Clothes & Accessories Ding Jianqiu, the chairman of the board of directors of the company, started to set foot in the clothing industry in the mid-1980s and started processing with supplied materials. "At that time, the business was very hot. People who came to pick up goods had to queue up."

According to Jiang Hai, president of the Women's Wear Branch of Wenzhou Garment Chamber of Commerce, from the mid-1980s to the early 1990s, the pattern of Wenzhou's clothing industry was completely different, which was mainly divided into three parts: Miaoguo Temple mainly engaged in women's clothing; Qingming Bridge mainly makes men's suits; Xinhe Street is mainly engaged in agency business, such as Puma, Nike and other brands. It is recorded that the production of suits formed a climate in Wenzhou at that time, and the Qingming Bridge Suit Street appeared. Due to the large demand for fabrics and the formation of Huanglong Boutique Fabric Street, Wenzhou clothing has a preliminary industrial chain.

The reporter once conducted a large number of interviews in the local area in order to do the topic of "Wenzhou Women's Wear". According to the interview, although Wenzhou's clothing industry is famous for men's clothing, women's clothing developed better than men's clothing when Wenzhou's clothing industry started in the 1980s. At that time, in the mode of "front store and back factory", women's clothing production accounted for a considerable proportion. At that time, Wenzhou people engaged in women's clothing production immediately fed back the popular information they had captured to women's clothing production, rapidly produced in large quantities, and took the lead in the market with the characteristics of high quality and low price.

Zheng Chen'ai believes that Wenzhou women's wear started earlier than men's wear, but it lacks market cultivation. So that after entering the 1990s, a group of men's clothing rose rapidly, breaking the pattern of women's clothing once leading. "It is easy for men's suit enterprises to form a scale. In addition to the use of large machinery and equipment, mass production in batches is easy to do. At the same time, in the 1990s, a large market for men's suit consumption was formed throughout China, which created the prosperity of Wenzhou men's suit market."

In general, Ningbo men's clothing has inherited the fine tradition of "Red Band Tailors" with a long history, and has gradually started to develop on a solid basis; Wenzhou men's wear, on the other hand, has no "historical heritage" to rely on, but relies on the loose and relatively free market environment after the reform and opening up, and starts and gradually develops according to the market rules.
