Tim Engelhardt, a young designer who graduated from the fashion design major of Studio Bercot School of design in France, has a unique view of fashion.

Tim was born in Du Sell Love, Germany, grew up in Geneva and Hongkong, China, moved to Paris in 2001, came to Shanghai in China in 2003, and entered the Hugo Boss design department in 2006. Now she is a design director at Montagut, and speaks fluent German, French, English, Spanish and Chinese.

The life experience of many eastern and Western countries gives him the fashionable view and design concept of personality.


Q: have you ever lived, studied and worked in different countries of East and West? What kind of impact have you had on such a design?


  



 


A: Fashion flows in life, lifestyles for designers.

It does have a great impact.

My experience in the field of design and travel experience make me understand the fact that small details are important.

Using silk or rayon, wool or acrylic, cotton or polyester fiber will make the clothes look totally different, but for two identical garments, adding one button will brighten up one.

All clothes apply to this principle. One or two details can make it distinctive and stand out.


Q: how does your fashion definition affect your design philosophy?


A: fashion is a kind of elegant life interest. It doesn't matter what brand you wear. The key is whether clothes can make you feel confident and comfortable.

Our design is to inherit our proud French tradition, adhere to the exquisite craftsmanship and ensure the quality of our products.

At the same time, we will closely follow the trend of the times and introduce new trends and technologies.


Q: France, which is a big name, and China that has already become the first country of international luxury consumption, how do you locate and describe these two different markets?


A: in France, the market positioning is relatively simple, that is, pay attention to the core value of the brand, continue the long history of French fashion, and stick to our consistent high quality technology; in China, in order to deal with the fierce competition from other luxury brands, we will highlight the fashion and unique side in addition to emphasizing the core spirit of the brand.

What changes have taken place in the industry and the market? What is the difference between France and Japan or other developed countries?


A: China has many potential young designers and visionary people, but it still needs to find and develop its own DNA.

This process starts with observing what others do, like a little brother imitating his brother.

Copying others requires studying their characteristics and ideas and learning their experience. This explains why we see some reproductions in the market. I think this process is normal. Both Japan and Korea have gone through this stage of development, and now their designs have found their own style.


Q: what is the design process for you? Do you have any interesting things to share with us?


A: the process of design is like a bold trip, stimulating and joyful.

In the process of designing, I like to do experiments with different materials.

I think it is a challenging and interesting thing to take part in exhibitions around the world and to understand the new technologies and trends in fabric and design, which is also a good way to create inspiration.


Q: China in your mind.

What is it like?


A: I have seen many Chinese gentlemen in the street. Their clothes may not come from famous brands, but they are well matched.

They are very particular about details, just like they will match their suits and jackets perfectly.

In addition, they are closely following the trend of science and technology. Everyone holds iPhone or iPad in their hands.
