Indonesia is one of the eight exporters of shoes and socks in the world. The footwear industry is one of the pillar industries of its export, and has made great contributions to the employment and export value of the country.

From the table below, you can see that over the past five years, the number of shoemaking workers in Indonesia has ranged from 370000 to 400000.

However, in 2006, as the footwear industry prospered, the number of shoemaking workers increased by 10% compared with 2005, reaching 431200.
