Japanese Bow Etiquette

Bowed in Japan, bowed and kneeled bowed:

Standing bowed: "true ceremony" is prepared by standing posture, then gradually separated from each other's hands, with two thighs slipped down, finger tips touching up to the knees. At the same time, the upper part of the body is tilted from the waist, and the upper part of the body is tilted from the waist. The head, back and legs are nearly 90 degree arches (avoid lowering their heads or bending down or bending their heads), making a slight pause to express their sincere respect for each other. Then, slowly straighten up the body to show their respect for the other side, and at the same time, hand lifting along the feet to restore the original stance.

Speed should be consistent with others in order to avoid embarrassment.

The "salute" principle is the same as "true ceremony", with only hands reaching the middle of the thigh, and the head, back and legs are about 120 degree arches.

"Grass ceremony" only needs to tilt the body slightly forward, with both hands on the thigh root, and the head, back and legs are approximately 150 degree arches.

If the owner is standing upright, while the guest is sitting on the bench, the guest will sit back.

"True ceremony" is based on sitting posture. When walking, the two hands move forward along the thigh to the knees. The waist moves forward and lowers the head, but the head, neck and back are in a horizontal arc, pause slightly, straighten up the upper body, and resume sitting posture.

When "salute", move both hands along the thighs to the middle.

"Grass ceremony" only put two hands on the thigh root, slightly leaning.

Kneeling bow: "true ceremony" to sit on the knees to prepare, back and neck to maintain straight, the upper part of the body tilted forward, and hands from the knees gradually slipping down, the whole palm of the hand, the hands and fingertips diagonally opposite, the body to the chest and knees only one fist of the gap (not to bow or bend down or bow), the body was 45 degrees forward, a little pause, slowly straightened up.

In the same salute, you should match your breathing with your breath, breathe out when you bend your body, and breathe in when you are straight.

The "salute" method is similar to the "true ceremony", but the hands are only half the palm of the hand (the second hand refers to the ground above the joint), and the body is about 55 degrees forward. When the "grass ceremony" is used, only the hands touch the ground, and the body leans forward about 65 degrees.
